Richard A. Jordan, 73, St Petersburg. FL, formerly of Hampden MA, passed away on Friday February 15, 2013 at his home. He was born in West Springfield, MA and lived in Hampden for 47 years before moving to St. Petersburg last year.
Richard served in the US Army Reserves for six years before establishing himself as a welder for Hamilton Sundstrand, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Federated Community Church in Hampden, MA. Richard loved his family and was in perpetual motion both at work and at home. He was a Mr. Fix-it that could build or repair most anything. He was awarded the “Silver Snoopy Award” from NASA for his work on the space suit life support system.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Hazel Jordan; his brother Raymond; and his sister, Hazel Mallory. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn; his sons, Ronald Jordan and his wife Angela of Agawam, MA and Robert Jordan and his wife Jennifer of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Deborah Jordan (formerly Skala) of Wilbraham, MA; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held, date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St Springfield MA 01104.
i just want to say to the entire Jordan family how sorry i am of the passing of your dad. he was a good man; both loving husband to your mom Marilyn and loving dad to Deb; Rob and Ronald. i kept in touch with Marilyn almost everyday by email to your mom. she was very lucky to have Rob and his family down their to help her when at the very end she needed help and hospice came in. they treated him kindly and were great with his needs. Richard fought hard to overcome illness. He is finally at peace. He will be missed by our entire family. We hope you can remember him as he was in life and carry on his good works. My condolences go out to all of his family.
Dear Marilyn, Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. We have such fond memories of the time we spent with you and Dick in Florida. Dick was a good man and loved you and your family very much, and took great care of you all. He was a great cousin and will be missed.
