Richard Baumann of Largo, Florida, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away on January 27, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born on July 16, 1919 in White Plains, NY. He attended Horace Mann School in Riverdale, NY, followed by Brown University where he was a proud member of the Class of 1941. He served in the Army in World War II in North Africa. After the war, he lived briefly in New York City, then moved to Buffalo, NY where he lived for over 30 years until he retired to Florida. In 2006 he returned to Brown University for the graduation of his grandson, his 65th reunion (and his daughter's 31st reunion). This past July, he celebrated his 90th birthday at a party attended by family and friends. He was always remarkable for his excellent health, keen mind and good spirits.
He was the beloved husband of Helen Baumann for the past 13 years, devoted father of Linda Baumann (Washington, DC) and David (and Lissa) Baumann (Potomac, MD) and proud grandfather of Gregory Faron (Chicago), Douglas Faron (New York City), Daniel Faron (Burlington, VT) and Alyson Baumann (Potomac, MD). In addition to his parents, David and Alma Baumann, he was preceded in death by his brother Jay Baumann (Rye, NY) and his first wife Frances Baumann (Buffalo, NY).
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Feb. 27, 2010 at 2pm at the Chapel on the Hill in Seminole, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association in Washington, DC or Brown University in Providence, RI.
