Richard L. “Dick” Falter, 80, of Osprey, FL, and formerly of Columbus, OH, passed on February 11, 2012 surrounded by his family. He began his career at The Herman Falter Packing Company of Columbus, where he was a cattle buyer and manager. Later, he and his brother Chuck bought what became The Village Packing Company, which supplied Wendy’s Restaurants in 17 states with fresh ground beef, while Dick was President. He retired from Friona Industries in 1985.

He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1949, where he lettered in Basketball and Football, and then attended The University of Notre Dame. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. This gracious man was much loved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed.

He was a frequent guest speaker for the Agriculture Department at Ohio State University and cattle conventions throughout the United States and Canada. He was involved with the Ohio State Fair for over 30 years and was a Cattle Judge at many State fairs. Dick was inducted into the Ohio State Fair Hall of Fame in 2010.
Dick was an avid golfer and both he and his brother Chuck at one time owned the Plant City Golf Club in Florida. He had memberships at The Oaks Golf Club, Longboat Key Club, Bird Key Yacht Club and Sara Bay Country Club in Florida. He was a former member of St. Andrew Parish in Columbus and later a member at St. Martha Catholic Church in Sarasota.

He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Stephen & Clara Grace (Levisay) Falter; a sister, Frances Grimes; and his wife, Dorothy Falter.

Dick is survived by his brother, Chuck (Kent Reedy) Osprey, FL, sister Carolyn (Pat) Murnane, Lancaster, OH; his former wife, Donna, and their children, 2 daughters, Debbie Falter, Darla Falter Cummings, both of Columbus, OH, 4 sons, Danny (Mary) Dublin, OH, Doug (Vicki) Falter & David Falter, both of Columbus, OH, Darryl (Tina) Pickerington, OH; 8 grandchildren, Lauren Falter Dudley, Jackie Falter Zunke, Doug Falter, Jr., Aaron Falter, Justine Falter, Sarah Cummings, Abby Cummings, Darryl Falter, Jr.; extended family, Lynda Myers; constant companion, his beloved Schnauzer, “Leyna”; and many nieces and nephews and other loving relatives and friends also survive him.

Family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Egan Ryan Funeral Home, 4661 Kenny Rd in Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Saturday at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Contributions can be made in his memory to the TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.
