Robert Charles Thomas Skrandel passed away on Tuesday, March 6th, 2012, after a brief stay at Trinity Gulfside Regional Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida. Robert was born to Frank and Lucille Skrandel of Chicago on February 2, 1924. He attended St. Rita HS and went on to attend St. Mary’s college as a seminary student before joining the war effort in 1943. As a 2nd Lieutenant, he flew C-47 (Goony Birds) over the Pacific and was stationed in the Philippines.
After the war, he came back to Chicago and worked as a Sales Manager for several product lines including auto parts, wholesale bleach and several lubrication manufacturers. He later met Carmella Marino and after several attempts, began dating her and subsequently marrying her on February 7, 1959. The couple resided in Oak Lawn before moving later to Florida in 1980.
Robert enjoyed music and played trombone, piano and his favorite, the organ. He was an avid fisherman and loved boating. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, humor and his love of food and of course, his family. He was also a man who knew right from wrong.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carmella Louise Skrandel, his daughter Lisa Marie Morgan (married to Rick Charles Morgan) and his son Robert John Skrandel (married to Roxanne Marie Skrandel). His grandchildren are Rebecca Jo Morgan, Devin Charles Morgan, Katelyn Ann Butler and Mellissa Hudson. His great-grandchildren are Audrey and Lucas Hudson. His sister in law is Annette Alessi and nephew Joseph Alessi. His sister is Lucille Olsen and brother Jerome F. Skrandel (wife Patricia Skrandel).
The services will take place in the chapel on Friday, March 16th, 2pm at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in New Port Richey.
To the family of Robert Skrandel,
We extend our deepest sympathies for your loss. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sorrowful time.
