Robert D. Mantz, 87, of Land O’ Lakes, FL, passed away on January 18, 2014.
He was born September 11, 1926 in North Plainfield, NJ, the son of Martin, and Anne (McCloskey) Mantz. After graduating from North Plainfield High School, Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Maryland, Pacific Theatre, during WW II. He also served as the Commander of the American Legion, North Plainfield NJ.
After the war, he received his B.A. degree from Bloomfield College. Robert started his retail merchandising career when he began working at his father’s grocery store, Colonial Market in Plainfield, N.J. He was the Store Manager and Supervisor for Foodtown Supermarkets and a route merchandiser for many years for Stella D’oro and Lipton Tea Co. His hobbies included reading, tennis, and swimming. He lived most of his life in New Jersey before moving to Florida several years ago. He touched many people’s lives with his wit, humor, and honesty.
He is survived by his loving wife Marie Matacera Nuzzo Mantz of Land O’ Lakes FL; two sons, James and wife, Betty, of Phillipsburg, NJ and Peter and wife, Susan, of Somerville, NJ; step-daughter, Lisa Nuzzo Staub and husband, John, of Land O’ Lakes; two step-sons, Vincent Nuzzo and wife, Adrienne, of Buford, GA and John Nuzzo and wife, Ginny, of Edison, NJ; ten grandchildren and a great grandson.
Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ at a future date.
Our prayers and deepest sympathies to Aunt Marie and the family. I only was in Uncle Bob’s company on a few occasions, and each time was always fun, what a kind man, welcoming and generous, you will be missed Uncle Bob.
