Robert “Bob” E. McGinnis, Sr., 80, of Palm Harbor, FL passed away Monday morning, August 11, 2008 at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.
Born in Millington, MI, Bob moved to Tarpon Springs from Burton, MI in 1975. He was raised in Michigan with his ten brothers and sisters. He retired from General Motors after 23 years of service in Tool and Die Assemblyman. He served as a mechanic in the US Army during the Korean War. When he returned he met Charlotte Tomkins, who worked at Bell Telephone with his sister, Sharon. They married in 1958 and became parents of twin daughters. He was a 23 year member of UAW Local 598, Flint, MI, an active member of the Salvation Army and was a Canteen Volunteer of the Disaster Services Team for many years. He was an avid jokester and enjoyed spending time on his computer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and his family.
Survivors include his three daughters: Kathleen Mendez of Palm Harbor, and Kay Jernigan and Caryn Snyder, both, of New Port Richey, FL; two sons: Robert E., Jr., of Clio, MI and Mayland of Shreveport, LA; three brothers: Darwin of TN, Red of Davison, MI and Stubby of Rankin, MI; four sisters: Bonita Carmean, Muriel Preston, and Sharon Deming all of Summerfield, FL, and Carol Ann Hopkins of Frankenmuth, MI; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
His main focus in life was his family. Any sister, brother, niece, nephew, child and grandchild would tell you that. A celebration of lif is exactly what he lived for. He will be remembered as a selfless man who leaves a legacy of love and peace.
Kay,
Ed and I wish we could be there with you. Please feel our arm around you and our heads bowed in prayer.

Kay, Kathy, and Caryn: On behalf of myself and my family our deepest sympathies to all of you and your families. We are very sorry we were unable to attend the funeral, but we were unaware of Bob’s passing until today. Your Dad was a great man. Always so full of laughs. None of us can remember a time when he wasn’t smiling. It was a great privilege and an honor to know him. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need anything. Our love and prayers are with you all.
In God’s Love,
The McCrea Family
