He was born in Philadelphia, PA, and served in the United States Navy as a Machinist Mate during World War II and in the U. S. Army Reserve as a Radioman during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his military service and was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Helen McDonough Saunders of 61 years, daughters Kathleen Farrell and husband, Chad Farrell; Bridget Meyer and husband, Steve Meyer, his son Scott and wife, Denise Saunders; grandchildren Robert (Bo), Sam, Rachel, Joe, Sean and Kelly and 2 great grandchildren, Ingrid and Gus.
A memorial mass will be said at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Robert’s favorite charity – St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57326.
Bridget and family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace and May God Bless you and your family.
I miss you so much, Dad. I wish I could call you.
I’m hoping you catch lots of fish and enjoy an amazing buffet of all your favorite foods everyday.
So much love,
