Roger K. “Skip” Newton, 73, of Indian Shores, FL, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 1000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL 33708 on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2:15 pm. Chaplin Richard Green and the Pinellas County Military Honor Guard to officiate. Please arrive at the cemetery between 1:45 pm and 2:15 pm.
A native of Baltimore, MD, raised in Chester, VA, Roger had been a local resident since 1975. He was of Protestant faith and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. While in Florida he became the proprietor of a small chain of juvenile furniture stores.
Roger served in the US Army as a combat medic in Vietnam. He was awarded a Parachute Badge; Expert in the M-16 Rifle; Sharpshooter Badge; Combat Medic Badge; Bronze Star Medal with Valor; and United States Air Force Commendation Medal.

Roger is survived by his loving family; wife, Carol Newton; two sons, Roger Newton Jr. and his wife Cherly of Largo, and Timothy Newton of Gainesville; and two granddaughters, Jessica Garbutt and Julia Garbutt.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (www.WoundedWarriorProject.org/Donate) in memory of Roger “Skip” Newton.
Carole, Joe and I want to express our heartfelt sorrow when we read of Skip’s passing. He was a good friend and such a pleasant person. Hope you’re doing O.K. You were such a devoted wife and we know he’s in a better place now. Our sincerest sympathy.
