Roy Louis Korrot: First generation American born, June 16, 1924, Philadelphia, PA, to immigrant parents of Eastern Europe. He was the second of two children. His sister, Clara, still resides in Pennsylvania. He grew up in the Philadelphia/Allegheny area. He attended and graduated from St. Joe’s Preparatory High School. Soon after, he enlisted in the U.S.A.F. November 6, 1942. Basic training was in Fresno, CA, followed by Aerial Gunnery School in Fort Meyers, FL. He served as a waist gunner/mechanic with honor and distinction in the U.S.A.A. F. Special OP/492 Bombardment Group known as the "Carpet Baggers" aboard a B24 Bomber named "Miss Begotten." He flew in battles and campaigns such as Air Offensive Europe, Northern France, Normandy and Rhineland. As a member of the OSS, he flew special night missions in a specially outfitted B24, dropping French Resistive Fighters deep into enemy territory. His decoration and citations include the EAMET Medal w 4Bs, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal and 2 OLC Medals. He was honorably discharged September 24, 1945 with rank of Staff Sgt. His life after the military found him mainly in business and sales. He owned a business in South Jersey called "Royal Uniforms" providing uniforms to parochial schools of the Philadelphia/New Jersey area. He retired to Gulfport, FL from NJ and settled at Otter Key Condominiums in St. Petersburg, FL. He enjoyed playing tennis, golf and shooting pool. He loved Fazio’s pizza and cheese steaks. He leaves behind and will greatly be missed by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Edith, six grown children; Dennis Michael, Timothy Roy, Gerard Francis, Nancy Patrice, Laureen Ann and Thomas Charles, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; In addition to Edith’s grown children; Diane, Thomas, Joseph and their children. Roy Louis Korrot died at his home of natural causes on Saturday, October 4, 2008. Memorial services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7851 54th Ave. N. at 11:00 a.m. on October 15, 2008, followed by interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
