Obituary for Ruth Elizabeth Alongi
Ruth Elizabeth Alongi, 83, went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2013 with her family by her side. Ruth was born on March 10, 1930 and was the daughter of Clarence G. and Lillian Leona Stephens. Ruth was married to the love of her life Frank Alongi for 59 years prior to his passing in 2009. They resided in Sarasota, Florida for 42 years.
Ruth enjoyed a long and successful career in real estate and was the owner and Broker of Alongi & Associates Real Estate in Sarasota, Florida. After retiring from real estate she decided to return to her former career as a nurse. She brought her professional nursing skills and compassion for her patients to the Pines Nursing Home in Sarasota where she worked until her retirement in 1998.
In 1999 Ruth and her husband Frank moved to Tampa, Florida where they enjoyed their retirement years with their daughter Sue and family until Frank’s passing. Ruth recently resided in Charlotte, North Carolina with her daughter Chris and family.
Ruth is survived by her loving family: daughters Chris (Rick) Rotunda and Susan (Michael) Thompson; grandchildren Brittani (Brian) Phillips, Joel (Denise) Rotunda; Brent (fiancée Kristen) Thompson, Kyle (Melissa) Thompson; great-grandchildren Sullivan Phillips and Cooper Rotunda; sister Betty Thomas and brother Steve Stephens; and many nieces and nephews. Ruth treasured the special bond and relationship she and her niece Patti Richmond shared through the years.
Ruth was an inspiration to all who knew her. She lived her life always putting family first. She and Frank are now together again. Her ashes will be buried next to his at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
A graveside service will be held on Friday October 4th at 1:00 p.m with Pastor James A. Donnelly, to officiate. A special song will be Amazing Grace and a eulogy by her niece. .
