Ruth Strong Romeo of Seminole, Florida went to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 29, 2011. She was born in Berea, Kentucky on March 2, 1922, to A.B. and Ethel Strong. Ruth was an excellent student and received a bachelor's degree in vocational home economics in 1970 from Jacksonville State University and a master's degree in education in 1974 from the University of Alabama. Ruth was a home economics teacher in Tuscaloosa, AL from 1973 until her retirement in 1988.
Ruth was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and was the heart of her family. She was a Girl Scout leader when her family lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Most recently, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks in Largo, Florida where she was a faithful servant of her Lord. At the church, she was active in quilting, thrift store, missions, and the Widow Connection group. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed painting ceramics and porcelain at Seminole Recreation Center, traveled with her peers, and was an excellent quilter, earning many blue ribbons for her quilts. Ruth was loved by her family and siblings for her smiles and joyful spirit.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Frank and her daughter Marion. She is survived by her daughter Edith Romeo (Tom) and her grandson Lee Upshaw; her daughter Roberta Romeo and her grandsons BJ Heron (Nina) and Heath Heron (Catherine) and her great-grandchildren Hannah, Hope, Noa, Hampton, and Harper Mae; her daughter Laura Rustin (Jim) and her grandchildren Kristina and AJ; her son Tony Romeo (Gloria); and her sister Helen Longo (Mike); and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks Memorial Gardens, with visitation from 6-7pm at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, 12685 Ulmerton Road, Largo, Florida 33774, in memory of Ruth Romeo.
