Veterans Funeral Care Sally Carrier

Sally Byer Carrier, 75, passed away in the care of Woodside Hospice, with her family by her side, Oct. 15, 2011. She was born on February 28, 1936 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Edward Francis Whalen and Emily Mae (Apgar) Whalen.

Sally was a physician’s assistant and registered nurse for many years. She was also considered to be a ‘foundational” staff member at the National Cremation Society, which became the largest organization of its kind on the East Coast. An avid reader and member of the Largo Public Library, she also loved music and secured tickets to the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965 for her entire family. Sally loved bringing her children to sporting events and taught them all how to swim, ice-skate, ski and enjoy the outdoors.

Sally was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her son John Byer and his three children Michelle, Jennifer and Madeline; her daughter Renée C. Byer, husband Paul Kitagaki, Jr., and son Thomas Byer, wife Midori Byer, and their two children Kaito and Sho. A private memorial service was held for family members immediately after her death.

Memorial donations may be made in the name of Sally Byer Carrier to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760. The family extends special thanks to Woodside Hospice.
