Sherry Wells Russell of Clearwater, FL passed away to be with the Lord at her home Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011. She was born in Baton Rouge, LA on August 2nd, 1931 to Eugene and Elavesta Wells. She is survived by her children, David Russell, Remington Russell, Lawrence Russell and Jennifer Russell; daughter-in-law Joyce Russell; grandchildren Bryson and Coleman Russell. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, George Russell and brothers’ Joe, Gene, and Rodney Wells.
Sherry grew up in Louisville, KY where she attended Ballard School. Soon after High School, Sherry followed her dream of Ice Skating and joined the “Holiday on Ice”, Ice show where she traveled the World doing what she loved to do through the 1950’s. After her Professional Ice Skating days were over, Sherry became a home maker for her husband, George and family and taught ice skating in Clearwater and St Pete.
Even more important, Sherry was a Christian who loved the Lord. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL for many years and was part of a Life Group there where she made many good friends.
If you were lucky enough to know Sherry, you know that she was a very special person, a person who would do without in order for others to do with, a person who never took but always gave, and a person who loved even those who were at times, unlovable. I know all of this to be true because I knew her and loved her for 43 years. I am her son and I will miss her dearly.
There will be a Memorial Service at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 3PM on Monday, December 12th where Brother Jim Lancaster will be speaking.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local house of workship.
Please sign the guestbook below.

Oh, the memories I will cherish for MRS. Russell! I met the Russell family 29 years ago after being introduced to her son Larry. I was a daily fixture in the household and she welcomed me with open arms. There were many times I would visit and converse with her and her husband George when noboy else was there. I moved away in 1996 but they were the first place I visited when in town. We would sit down and talk and she always wanted to feed me and discuss famliy. MRS. Russell IS the most caring person I have ever met in my life. I will miss her. I feel blessed to have shared my life with such an amazing, friendly, loving person. Russell family- My thoughts and love are with you now and forever. Eric
I love you Mom and I know how much you loved me!
We will all miss you!
David
I will always remember Mrs. Russell as a very kind, caring person and an excellent mother. She was the first mom, my mother became friends with when we moved to Florida. Funny I can still hear her voice in my head. To live to be 80 is wonderful. I wish her 4 children well and I am very sorry for their loss. Side note to Larry- You always have a friend in me..
Mrs. Russell is the nicest, most unselfish woman I had ever met.She had concern for all of her children and loved everyone. I know she was endeared by her church and everyone who knows her and if you met her, you would understand. My sympathy goes out to my best friend Larry Russell and his family.
Remington, Jennifer and family praying that you may find peace and strength in our loving Father,s comforting arms. Sherry will be tremendously missed but know in your hearts that we will all be with our dearly departed some day, and what a Glorious Christmas for them it will be to be celebrating Jesus’s Birthday with Him in heaven. I love you more than anyone on this planet and though I didn’t always show it with my actions, you were always there to love me back. We were all put on this Earth by God to love one another, or at least strive to. You, Mom, accomplished that your entire life, and I have had that wonderful example that came from Jesus Christ himself, to follow.
I miss you so very much, but your spirit is part of mine, and I know you are with the Lord now, and I will see you soon enough. I will take what you have taught me and do my very best to love one another as you did. Thanks Mom for being such a great “Mom”, and comfort to me while you were here. You were my comforter while you were here Mom and now Jesus is your comforter in Heaven.
Love you always.
Your proud Son,
Larry
Sherry and I were roomates in 1955 and 1956 while skating with Holiday on Ice. Have been trying to contact her for a long time, and just found this site today(10-05-13). She is in my prayers and have missed her for years.
Love to her family,
