Stanley W. Nordin passed away peacefully on June 26, 2012, at the age of 92 in Tampa, FL. He lived most of his life in Slayton, MN.  Stanley was born in Braham, MN, on August 17, 1919, to Ernest and Eleanor Nordin. He grew up on a dairy farm with his sister, Virginia, and graduated from Braham High School in 1937.

He attended the University of Minnesota on an athletic scholarship and then joined the Marine Corps in 1941. He attended OCS and received his commission in 1942. On May 8, 1942, while on service leave he married his wife, Marjorie, of 48 years. As a fighter pilot he flew F4U Corsairs throughout the South Pacific during WWII and flew transport between Guam and Kwajalein. He also served as a flight instructor. After Stanley was discharged he and Marjorie returned to St. Cloud, MN, where he finished his college education and lettered in football, track, basketball, and swimming. He was captain of both the basketball and football teams and they won several All Conference Championship titles. In 1989 he was inducted into the St. Cloud State University Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements.

After graduating college in 1946 Marjorie and Stan lived in Hawaii for two years teaching school and coaching at Wheeler Field in Oahu. In 1948 they moved to Long Prairie, MN where Stan taught high school and coached football and basketball. They came to Slayton, MN, in 1949 and opened a SuperValu Food store. They lived in Slayton for over 40 years and were actively involved in community and church activities. He was a charter member of the Slayton Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, and served on many Boards including North West Bank, Slayton Country Club and Minnesota Food Retailers Association. Stan loved playing golf and bridge. He also enjoyed hunting and boating with his 4 children on Lake Shetek.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, and daughter Theresa. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Kingman from San Diego, CA and Cindy Raymond from Valrico, FL; one son, Thomas, from Otsego, MN; and 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at St Ann Catholic Church in Slayton on Friday July 6, at 10:30 am. Visitation at Totzke Funeral Home will be Thursday, July 5, from 4-7 pm.
