Stephen James Chromy, 89, DCC-US Navy-Retired-of Largo, FL died on August 5, 2008. DCC Chromy funeral service with full US Navy Military Honors will be 9:15 AM, Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL 33504. A Native of Bethlehem, PA and a local resident since 1959, when he moved here from Philadelphia, PA; he was a retired US Navy DCC; a catholic and a US Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After retiring form the US Navy, Stephen worked for the US Coast Guard as a painter and he was a Pearl Harbor Survivor; a member of the American Legion; enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was greatly involved in the Little League as a manager. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Chromy of Largo, FL; three sons, George Chromy and his wife, Joanne of Pinellas Park, FL; John Chromy and his wife, Louise of Bristol CT and Joe Bedy and his wife, Cindy of New Port Richey, FL; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Margie and Family, We are truly sorry for loss. Steve was like a cross between a brother and a father to us. He was really loved by us all and will be sadly missed. I was so glad to have seen him one last time when I visited you on my training trip to Florida. That was the first and last time I got to see him since spring of 1959, when you and he were home after his retirement and I was home on my first re-enlistment leave. I left and then you guys moved to Florida and I never seen him again until that visit. I remember Mom was in the hospital with gall bladder surgery and you and I went to Geis’s furniture store I believe and bought Mom her dinning room set. It is grand that we have such memories. I pray that you all keep those memories fresh and forget all the bad ones. We love all and pray that you all wake up every morning.

We would like to share our deepest condolences on the passing of Uncle Steve. I will miss Uncle Steve tremendously as he and Aunt Marge and the entire family have been such an important part of my life. I will always cherish the memories of the time we spent together and his stories, they are among my best memories. God is so good. As a little boy He placed me in the charge of a man and a family who loved me as if I was a biological son. I was taught that you could be kind and gentle and still be tough. The twinkle in his eye when he smiled was like diamonds sparkling at you. And when I use my little step stool or see the cradle he made for me as a child, I have fond memories of my very special Godfather!
