Veterans Funeral Care Stephen Szabo

Stephen “Pete” Anthony Szabo, 85, of Largo, Florida passed away April 28, 2014 peacefully at his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris Catherine Buckley Szabo (10-5-2013) and his sister, Mary Caroline Starr (1998).  Survivors include his children: Stephen A. Szabo, Jr. (Maggie) and Holly (Gregory) James, both of Largo; five grandchildren: Matthew Szabo, Marc (Amanda) Szabo, Katie Szabo, William James and Nicholas James.

Pete was born in Perth Amboy, NJ and graduated from Metuchen High School. After graduation, he was employed by the State of New Jersey Department of Labor Office. He served in the Navy during World War II, and was later employed by the Ford Motor Assembly Plant in Edison, NJ as an industrial engineer for over forty years. He was proud that his plant was involved with the assembly of the original 1964 Ford Mustang, and was awarded a 1967 Mustang for his innovative engineering idea that same year. Upon retirement in 1979, his family moved to St. Petersburg Beach, and later relocated to Harbor Bluffs in 1994. He remained an active member in each of these communities through various associations. Pete was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Largo where he was an usher. He was a shining example of a Good Samaritan touching many lives. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. His grandchildren were paramount in his life and never missed an opportunity to share in their lives.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, May 3rd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1507 Trotter Road, Largo, FL. Should friends desire, donations may be made to St. Patrick’s in his memory.
