Thomas M. Owens, 87, of Bartow, FL funeral service is 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Wahneta Tabernacle of Praise Church, 1664 Rifle Range Road, Bartow, FL 33830 with Reverend Richard Owens and the United States Army Military Honors Funeral Team, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until service time.
Thomas was born on June 17, 1925 in Graden, Virginia and passed away at his daughters residence in Bartow, Florida on May 16, 2013 from congestive heart failure and pneumonia. He was a local resident since 2005, when he moved here from Corbin, Virginia. Thomas was a retired block maker, a Baptist and a US Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the US Army. His awards and decorations include Two – Silver Stars for valor; Combat Infantryman Badge; Good Conduct Medals; European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon; Distinguished Unit Badge; World War II Victory Medal; Occupational Medal for Japan; Korean Service Medal w/5 Bronze Campaign Stars and participated in Battle Campaign for Normandy, Northern France; Rhineland and Central Europe.
Predeceased in death by his parents, John and Mary Owens; two daughters, Fonda Faye Harrison and Penny Olmsted, he is survived by his loving family: his sons, Danny Owens of Bartow, Florida and John Owens of Avon Park, Florida; his daughters, Lois Norman and her husband, Ricky of Bartow, Florida and Linda Adams of Crossville, Tennessee; a siblings, Chev Shelton of Corbin, Virginia and Elizabeth Owens of Norton, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
