Walter Puchinsky, 86 of Punta Gorda, Florida previously of Door County, Wisconsin died July 21, 2002 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country as an Army Ranger during WWII. He attained the rank of Sergeant and earned a Bronze Star for action against the enemy in the Dieppe raid. He landed and fought in Africa and later in Anzio, Italy. There he was captured by the Germans and sent to Stalag 11B. He was there 14 months before he escaped, was recaptured and spent time in a small box as punishment. He is the son of August and Sarafina Puchinsky. He is survived by his son, David, of Summerfield, FL and daughters, Sandra Gray of Punta Gorda, FL and Mary Luke Sprague of Lecanto, FL. Mr. Puchinsky was buried at the Bay Pines National Cemetery with full Military Honors on August 5, 2002.

My father and some great friends were WW11 Rangers. They were the best we had and I think today are pretty much at the top of the mountain! “RANGERS, LEAD THE WAY”
