WISNOSKI, Wayne A., 62, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Jan. 24, 2010, at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
Born in Chicago, IL, he was raised in California where he graduated from San Diego State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and loved all baseball.
Preceding him in death was his beloved sister, Joyce Hedlund of Mercer Island, WA and parents, Alphonse and Marian Wisnoski of Burlingame, CA. He is survived by his fiancee, Tina Delaney; his sister, Roberta and her husband, Lawrence McHugh and their children, Mark, Laura, and Corinne. Also surviving are his nieces in Seattle, WA, Diane, Linda, and Karin, and their families.
Graveside services will be held at the Bay Pines National Cemetery.

Sorry to hear about Wayne’s passing. He was a loving, caring & giving gentleman to my sister.He’ll always be in our Thoughts & Hearts. You don’t know me but I have a story to tell you about Wayne. He and I played ball together in Lynwood and because of knowing him, he changed my life. It is kind of a long story and I will try and make it short. I was playing minor league baseball in the Los Angeles Dodger organization in 1966, I took a chance draft and Vietnam and did not have a draft deferment. As luck would have it, I was drafted into the Army. As a result the Dodgers pulled some strings and got me into the Air Force and my reporting date was October 29, 1966. Only problem,I was supposed to report to the Army on October 27th. The draft board decided since the Army had me first, I was stuck. As luck would have it, I just so ran into Wayne (I had not seen him in several years)and he told me he was also going into the Air Force on October 26th. Hearing about my situation, he suggested we trade Air Force reporting dates. It worked, he went in my place and I in his. Thus, my life changed and who knows, he may have saved my life. I often wondered what became of him so I Googled his name,I am so sorry to hear of his passing, I would have loved to see him again and thank him for his thoughtfulness, he did change my life.
Wayne and I went to college together. He was known as coach as he always told everyone what plays San Diego state should play. I lost touch with him after he moved to Fl. He was just the greatest guy and during our college days if you saw Wayne you saw me. He was one of the main reasons I loved my time at San Diego State. R.I.P. Coach Love you
