William Fensch, 89, of Clearwater, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2011 in Clearwater, Florida. He was born in Mansfield, OH and moved to Florida in 1980.
He served his country in World War II as member of the United States Army. During his time in Europe, he was in the battle zones of Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes (the Battle of the Bulge) and Central Europe. For his participation, he received five Bronze Battle Stars. During his time in the service, he received a Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was also a Marksman.
He worked more than 40 years for the Westinghouse Corporation starting in Mansfield, Ohio, eventually transferring to Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, PA, and Millburn, New Jersey. Retiring to Florida in 1980, he enjoyed 30 years of the good life. During his retirement both he and Patricia were active in volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital and the American Legion. While at the Legion he became the post commander for two terms and was a member of the Forty & Eight.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Vera Durbin Fensch of Mansfield, Ohio, brother, Richard Lee Fensch of Mansfield, Ohio, his sister Helen Charles of Vermillion, Ohio, and step-son John Kelsey of Clearwater, Florida. He is survived by his wife Patricia Fensch; son, Richard Lee Fensch and wife Beverly, of Export, PA; daughter, Diane Jeanne DiNizo and her husband, Antonio of Scotch Plains, NJ; and stepson, William H. Kelsey of Long Island, NY. He enjoyed his many grandchildren and great-grand children.
On September 6, 2011, a memorial service will be held for family and friends at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL 33708.
