Winfred Powers, Jr.,

Veterans Funeral Care Winfred Powers, Jr.,

Winfred W. Powers, an optician and former East Aurora resident, died suddenly in Clearwater on July 24, 2004. He was 82.
Born in Buffalo on August 29, 1921 to Dr. Winfred W. Powers, Sr. and Bernice Marble Powers of Kenmore, Mr. Powers was a graduate of Kenmore High School and Columbia University. He was also a World War II veteran, serving in Germany and France.
He and his wife, Joan, moved to East Aurora in 1955, where they lived for 37 years. “I believe my parents came to Eat Aurora to raise their family, so Dad could open his business and also be close to commute to Buffalo,” said his daughter, Kyle Nicol-Mueller.
Mr. Powers owned Powers Optical Center on Main Street in East Aurora, with a second location on Main and Mohawk streets in Buffalo. His family notes with pride that he served the Buffalo and Erie County area for over 45 years.
In 1992, says Mrs. Nicol-Mueller, her father and mother moved to Florida. “He retired with his bride of 55 years and enjoyed the remaining years playing golf and enjoying the beautiful weather.”
He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; four children: Deborah James Youroukos of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kyle James Nicol-Mueller of Canandaigua, NY, Winfred W. Powers, III of Kitchener, Ontario, and Donald Powers of Mount Vernon, Illinois; eleven grandchildren: Andriana, Malinda, Stephanie, Peter Bugsy, Evangelynn, Robert, Meghan, Ian, Katelyn, Lauren, and John; two great-grandchildren: Siara and Bobby Lee; and his brother, Jack Powers of Clarence.
A private celebration of his life was held by his family in Clearwater.
Arrangements ere entrusted to Veterans Funeral Care, 15381 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, Florida 33760.
