Albert Elon “Shorty” Burge, 81, of Pinellas Park, FL died on October 14, 2019 at Northside Hospital. He lived in Springfield, Illinois from birth until 2013. Albert was born on February 14, 1938 in Springfield, IL., the son of Ernest Burge and Vella Dougherty Burge. He married Carol Griffitts in Springfield, Illinois on March 13, 1965. They shared 25 years of marriage.
He worked as a farmer and proudly served in the United States Navy for six years. In 1956, he was on the USS Haverfield. In 1957, he was the Gunners mate on the USS Frank Knox. In 1959, Albert was on the destroyer #596 USS Schields. He was a mechanic, delivery driver for State General Register and worked at Chiliman Chili Plant. Albert enjoyed BMX racing, fishing, painting cars, and hunting. He always enjoyed making people laugh. His family remembers him for his sense of humor and his ability to annoy Carol.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Carol Burge, son Albert E. Burge II, and wife Cheri, daughters: Tina Horner and fiance, Brian Wilder, Angie Traman and husband, Shawn, grandsons: Anthony Horner and Austin Hamilton.; Granddaughters: Angelica Maloney, Kyla Traman and many great-grandchildren. Albert was so proud of his 3 wonderful children and their families.
