Alfredo B. Florendo, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on August 16, 2026, at HCA Florida Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg following a heart attack. Born on January 1, 1941, in Santo Domingo, Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines, Alfredo lived a life full of dedication, love, and service.
The son of Cleto O. and Dorotea B. Florendo, Alfredo was raised with strong values and a deep sense of community. These early lessons guided him throughout his life, as he pursued a career that allowed him to serve others with honor and integrity.
Alfredo proudly served his adopted country as a Petty Officer 1st Class in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he dedicated himself to protecting and aiding those in need. Upon his retirement, he continued to embody the values of the Coast Guard, demonstrating unwavering commitment and loyalty to his family and community.
In 2006, Alfredo married the love of his life, Socorro Baluis, in a heartfelt ceremony in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines. Their union, blessed with twenty years of love and companionship, was a testament to the deep bond they shared. Together, they raised their beloved daughter, Samantha B. Florendo, who was the light of Alfredo’s life and whom he cherished deeply.
Known for his kindness, Alfredo was a man who lived each day with a gentle strength and a generous heart. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his warmth and willingness to lend a helping hand. His laughter and stories will be missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Alfredo leaves behind his devoted wife, Socorro, and his cherished daughter, Samantha, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. As they mourn his passing, they also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.
I did not know this gentleman, but reading his obituary makes me sad that I did not! I will offer prayers for him and his wife and daughter.
I was saddened to read of Alfred’s passing. I will always cherish the memories from back when his son Fred and I first met working together at Raymond James in our early 20s. You were so terrific letting us spend those fun weekends at your house, swimming in the pool while you grilled those incredible marinated steaks. You and Shirley were always so welcoming, making me feel like part of the family. I still smile remembering Roderick, always rushing in and out of the house on his own college schedule, no time for us “old fuddy-duds” playing card games! Some forty years later, and those are still days I won’t forget. Now, here we are, all grown up with families of our own, it’s hard to believe so much time has passed.
I want to send my deepest condolences to my longtime friend Fred in Boston, as well as to his brother Roderick and his family in the Tampa Bay area. Your first family was a massive part of your life’s journey, and your boys are deeply in my thoughts. I also want to extend my respectful condolences to Socorro and Samantha during this difficult time. For those of us who knew Alfred during those wonderful early decades, those memories will always remain. RIP Alfred, you truly had it all and lived a full life.
