Barbara T. Moffett

Barbara Teresa Moffett
Barbara was born to Peter and Luz Alvarez on November 4, 1949 in Flushing, Queens,
NY. She lived there for five years until her father was transferred to Miami by Pan American
Airlines. They lived in the suburb of Hialeah where her brother, Peter, was born in 1957.
She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Hialeah from Kindergarten to
8th grade and graduated from Hialeah High School in 1967. She was active in her high school
choir and had a love of singing from an early age.
Her parents were involved in the Order of the Eastern Star and Barbara herself was
inducted at the age of 18. It was an organization she was active in throughout her life. She
made many lasting friendships and it brought her great joy. She was able to showcase her
talent and her love of singing on many occasions.
She attended Lindsey Hopkins Adult Education Center, and was subsequently
introduced to her husband, Richard Moffett, through her mother, who also attended. They met
in September of 1970 and were married on June 17, 1971. The lived in an apartment on Miami
Beach until they purchased their first home in South Miami in 1972. Their first child, a daughter
named Catherine Elizabeth, was born on November 28, 1973, followed by a son, Robert
Andrew, born on August 31, 1975.
She had several different jobs including Deel Ford, American Bankers Insurance Group ,
and was a secretary for a private practice lawyer in Miami. She was active in the church choir at
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, and even worked there for a short time.
She welcomed a son-in-law in 2006 when her daughter married Paul Hamlin and a
daughter -in-law when her son married Ruth Parker in 2008. After 38 years in South Miami,
Richard and Barbara moved to The Villages to be closer to their expanding family in Central
Florida. Their first grandchild, Michael James Moffett, was born on September 22, 2009,
followed by a granddaughter, Sarah Rose Moffett, born June 27, 2012. She was a wonderful and
doting grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Holidays,
birthdays and wonderful family accomplishments were always celebrated together, and she
looked forward to the next time she could have her family together again. The last get together
was Easter, and she had a wonderful time watching her grandchildren hunt for Easter eggs in
the back yard.
She became ill with a blood clot in her leg two days after Easter and passed away 12
days later from complications. She will be remembered by those who loved her as a kind and
sweet person who was always willing to help out to the best of her abilities. Her beautiful spirit
touched so many people and she will be missed.
