Betty A. Skiver, 88, Clearwater, FL, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2017. She was born in Austin, PA and lived for many years in Olean, NY. Mrs. Skiver was retired from AVX Advanced Products, Olean, NY. She moved to Central Florida in 1990 with her beloved husband Howard Vinson Skiver, now deceased.
She loved the outdoors and was an avid collector of natural rock and glass. Betty was very creative and artistic with driftwood, natural stone and flowers. Everywhere she looked, she saw the creativeness of nature including everything that sparkled and dazzled. She belonged to the original and exclusive “sparkle” girl club. The Olean Times Herald published a photo of her driftwood creation that looked like a deer during hunting season.
Betty loved her family and friends and animals too. She loved entertaining, to read and to create with jewelry and beads. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was very generous and kind. Betty was of the Baptist faith and was a member at Faith Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Agnes Harrier; and her husband of 52 years, Howard Vinson Skiver. She is survived by her sons, Dennis H. Skiver of North Platte, NE and Douglas K. Skiver of Deltona. FL; daughter, Janice Kolata of Clearwater, FL; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Faith Baptist Church, 1200 Providence Blvd, Deltona, FL, 32725. A Committal Service will follow at 2:00PM at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL, 33513.
