Betty Louise Crow

Betty Louise (Berto) Crow, a cherished matriarch, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, at Melech Hospice House in Temple Terrace, Florida. Born on March 27, 1932, in Dennison, Texas, Betty lived a vibrant life that touched many hearts and left a lasting legacy of love and kindness.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert “Wayne” Crow, and her parents, Alfred Thomas Berto and Mary Frances (Gore), Betty is survived by her caring sister, Vicki (Don) Nandine, of Wisconsin, and her two devoted children, Herbert Wayne Crow II (Mary) of Geronimo, Oklahoma, and Katherine Crow Nichols (Franklin) of Jacksonville, Florida. Her family further extends to five adoring grandchildren: Tosha Crow, Alta Newbold, Herbert W. Crow III, Robert Franklin Nichols (Jessica), and Thomas Wayne Nichols. She also held a special place in her heart for her granddaughter-in-love, Jennifer Bilger (Devin), and her great-grandchildren: TJ Newbold, Trace Newbold, Benjamin Newbold, Wade Newbold, Logan Newbold AJ Walker, Emiela Newbold, Kaitlin Gardner, Noah Bilger, Makenzie Nichols, and Brentley Nichols. Betty was also proud of her great-nephew Emit Watson (Laura) and had a wide circle of extended family and friends who lovingly considered her family.

Betty was a retired school teacher for Hillsborough County, Florida, and served as a former pastor’s wife, dedicating her life to education and service. She was an active member of Bible Baptist Church in Plant City, Florida, where she fostered connections and shared her love for the Lord with her community.

Her hobbies included sewing, baking, decorating cakes, reading, and traveling on cruise ships. She had an affinity for butterflies, cooking shows, and the color pink. Betty’s passion for family was evident in her joyful moments spent with them, especially her great grandson Noah, who fondly remembers their time at the fish pond and playing ball together.

Known for her spunky spirit, Betty was never seen without a bow in her hair, perfectly matching her outfit, and her radiant smile brightened the lives of everyone around her. Fiercely independent and sometimes stubborn, her tenacity carried her through many adventures. Even in her later years, when travel became a challenge, she embraced life on her scooter, joyfully zipping down the halls of her retirement home, often playfully told to slow down.

Betty loved to play games, especially Kings Corner, and enjoyed indulging in Checkers cheeseburgers and ice cream. Her zest for life and her unwavering love for her family created countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Betty’s life will be held on July 23, 2025, at 12:30 PM at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In this time of grief, her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Stephen and Cathy Shelton for their unwavering support and love toward Grandma Crow when family could not be there. Your sacrifices will always be remembered and appreciated.

Betty Louise Crow’s legacy of love, laughter, and light will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives. She will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
