Carl Taylor

Petty Officer Carl Taylor while stationed at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

C

arl Taylor was born on July 5, 1935 to Carl and Ruth (Lacy) Taylor in Cincinnati, Ohio. He passed away on August 21, 2016 in Clearwater, Florida at Morton Plant Hospital.

Family

Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Cynthia “Cindy” Taylor. He is survived by his sons David Taylor of Clearwater, Florida; Daniel Taylor of New Port Richey, Florida; step daughter Rebecca Fordham of Safety Harbor, Florida and his three grandchildren Alexander, Joseph, and Mark.

Navy

Carl joined the United States Navy on April 26, 1954 in Norwood, Ohio. He was honorably discharged on August 16, 1958 as a petty officer third class. Carl always talked about his love for the Navy and how important his time in the service was to his life. He talked frequently of the tour of duty that he served in Cuba at Guantanamo Naval Base. He ran the supply shop there on base at Guantanamo. When he and his buddies were off duty they would played softball with the local residents.

Life

After his service in the military Carl held many different jobs. He was very proud of working and eventually retiring from Ford Motor Company as a machine operator. Years later Carl found his way to Veterans Funeral Care where he served as a funeral attendant and senior driver on our transportation team. Families constantly remarked on how gentle and compassionate he was when he arrived at their homes after they had experienced such a huge loss. Everyone that he worked with could speak to his tireless work ethic and genuine love for every veteran.

Carl loved being with his grandson, Alexander, and coaching his little league team. He was also a die hard Tampa Bay Lightning hockey fan. Carl was on call for Veterans Funeral care at night and was busy working most nights, loving every minute of it, but he would request the occasional night off when the Lightning were in the playoffs or playing a particularly big game.
