Charles Allen Blitch-SFC-US Army-Retired


Charles Allen Blitch, 80, SFC-US Army-Retired funeral service is Friday, September 15, 2017 @ 11:00 AM, at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd., Lutz, Florida 33548 with Pastor Philip Hanes, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church form 10:00 AM until service time.  Following the church service, full military honors and graveside service will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 15, 2017 at Florida National Cemetery, 6205 SW  102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida  33513 with the United States Army and VFW Post 10209, to officiate.

A lifelong Tampa, Florida native and a resident of Odessa, Florida, SFC Blitch was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran serving our nation for over 20 years. . During his career, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Parachute Badge; Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; Combat Infantryman Badge; Senior Parachute Badge; Ranger Tab; Master Parachute Badge; Vietnam Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Master Royal Thai Army Parachute Badge; Royal Thai Army Fourragere, Vietnam Campaign Medal w 60 Device; Expert M-16 Badge and served over seas in Vietnam and Thailand.

After retiring from the US Army, Charlie joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff Office serving as a Deputy Sheriff and retiring after 20 plus years of service as a Detective.

He was born on March 14, 1937 and passed away on September 4, 2017 at the Florida Hospital-Carrollwood in Tampa, Florida.

Preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Patricia Rimenschneider in 2014 and a half brother, Wayne Wilkinson. Charles is survived by his loving family: his wife, Janis Blitch of Tampa, Florida; a daughter, Deborah Lawton and her husband Ray of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Gene Blitch and his wife, Hilda of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
