Charles Mixson

Charles Mixson, a pillar of faith, Army veteran, a master mechanic, and a beloved patriarch, peacefully passed away on April 3, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on November 15, 1934, to James Edgar Mixson and Laura Eunice Todd, Charles’s life was a testament to dedication, love, and service.

Raised in Largo, Florida, Charles’s journey began at Largo High School, where he laid the groundwork for a life marked by diligence and integrity. His steadfast faith led him from childhood membership at Lone Pilgrim Primitive Baptist Church to his lifelong devotion to the First United Methodist Church of Pinellas Park, where he found solace and community.

Charles’s professional career as an automobile mechanic spanned decades, a testament to his skill and passion. For 30 years, he served as a mechanic at the City of Largo, ascending to the esteemed position of garage foreman before retiring. His expertise and dedication left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Beyond his work, Charles embraced life’s joys with enthusiasm. An avid auto racing enthusiast, he was a familiar face on the tracks as both a car owner and driver for prestigious clubs such as Racecars of Yesteryears and the Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association. He found peace on the waters as a member of the Largo Bass Anglers and shared his love for the outdoors through camping and water skiing with his cherished family, creating many lasting memories.

Charles’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband to Beverly Kay (Redmon) Mixson and a loving father to his sons Bruce John Loubet, Dave Randall Schott, David Charles Mixson, and Steven Christopher Mixson. His daughters-in-law Laura Ellen (Guswiler) Loubet, Edith Renee (Jordan) Schott, Heather Lea (Ledet) Mixson, and Sandra Lee (Rawls) Mixson were embraced as his own, as were his grandchildren Christopher Todd Loubet, Daniel Scott Loubet, Aaron Clayton Estep, Heather Pearline Olmstead, Hannah Leigh Mixson, Sarah Elizabeth Mixson, Micah David Mixson, Alexandria Virginia Rawls, Zachary Steven Mixson, and Leah Kay Mixson, along with his six great-grandchildren.

Charles’s memory will be cherished by his surviving family, including his sister-in-law Patricia Andrews, nephew Danny Andrews, nephew Jack Hackney, niece Pam Sanford, and cousins Lavone Brown and Elizabeth Lewis. He is preceded in death by his daughter Denise Carol (Loubet) LaSala, brother-in-law Grady Andrews, sister-in-law Joyce (Redmon) Heffernan, and cousins Melrose Banks and Myrtice Ray.

A celebration of Charles’s life will be held at Veterans Funeral Care, 830 N Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33765, on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Visitation will begin at noon, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm. The burial will take place at Lone Pilgrim Cemetery in Seminole, FL, at 2:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation in Charles’s memory. His legacy of love, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace.
