Daniel J. Engelken

Daniel J. Engelken passed away peacefully in his home on June 16, 2026, at age 91.
He was born in Petersburg Iowa, the son of Henry and Rose Engelken. He attended St.
Peter and Paul School and served as a Radar Technician in the Air Force from 1955 –
1958. He enrolled at Iowa State University, with only an eighth-grade education, and
graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, with honors. He worked
for Honeywell in St. Petersburg FL. for 28 years. One of the most challenging was
working on the development and integration of the internal navigation system of a
classified plane, now known as the SR71 Stealth Bomber. He met his wife, Delores
(Dee), in California and they were married in 1964.

Dan and Dee retired in Seminole, where they enjoyed travel, spending time with their
family in Iowa, and volunteering. They moved to Lake Seminole Square in 2013,
enjoying the services and friendships they found there. Dan moved to an assisted living
unit within Seminole Square after Dee passed in 2024. He was known as “Mr. Dan”
there, always cheerful and with a good word for everyone as they provided his care with
compassion and thoughtfulness.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 5 siblings, 2 nieces, and 1 nephew. He
is survived by one sister-in-law and 20 nieces and nephews.
A Rite of Committal with military honors will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery on July
20, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be sent to a Veterans organization of your
choice. Arrangements provided by Veterans Funeral Home, 830 N. Belcher Rd.,
