Danny Lee Andrews, 78, of Largo, FL died on August 21st, 2023 at Sand Key VA Health and Rehab in Clearwater, FL. Danny was born in Washington DC to his parents, Leroy Andrews and Mernie Jean Sites on December 19, 1944. It was in Stafford, VA that he married his beautiful wife of 30 years, Mary Jane Barber on May 4, 1993. He was Command Sergeant Major-CSM E9 US ARMY 716th Military Police, a Vietnam Veteran, Danny served 30 years from 1964 to 1994 (Active Duty and Reserves). He worked as Metropolitan Police in Washington DC before retiring in 1986. A member of the Fraternal Order of Police, his proudest achievements included serving as a bodyguard to General William C. Westmoreland in Vietnam. In August 1967, he was assigned to 57th MP Co, West Point, US Military Academy at West Point NY where he was awarded soldier of the month. Danny was also awarded a Bronze Star with Valor and a Meritorious Unit Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster, as well as 3 Presidential Unit Citations while serving in Vietnam. He is preceded in death by his brother, Randy Andrews, His son, who served in the US NAVY, Jason Leroy Andrews, and his parents, Leroy and Mernie Jean Andrews. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Andrews, and his two brothers, Jimmy Andrews and Larry Andrews. His memory will be cherished for years to come and this American hero will be dearly missed by all who have known him. A service with full military honors will take place at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, FL on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023 at 11:00 AM.
