M/SGT Crompton served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and retired on October 31, 1972 from Chanute AFB, Illinois. His military career was devoted to Aircraft Mechanics and he retired as a Master Instructor in aircraft mechanics.
Dave passed away on June 20, 2023 following a sudden illness. He was born on March 5, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Frank and Margaret Crompton. On September 10, 1960 he married Eunice Ann Macdonald and they were married 62 years. Dave is survived by his loving family: son, David Andrew Crompton and his wife Grace; daughters, Beth Ann Babb and her husband David, and Deborah Sue Liotine; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Daniel Crompton.
Dave first worked as an apprentice bricklayer before enlisting and serving 20 years in the United States Air Force. He founded and led the Fellowship House, a Christian Serviceman’s Center in Tampa, Florida, for many years. He also taught social studies at the Tampa Baptist Academy before his final retirement. Over the years that he was living in Tampa, he worshiped with believers at Christ Community Church, Idlewild Baptist Church, Carrollwood Bible Chapel and Creekside Church.
During his Air Force career, Dave was stationed in various parts of the world, but for the last 50 years, his home has been in Tampa, Florida. He enjoyed an interest in tropical fish that was passed on to him by his father. However, his main passion in life was studying the Bible, supporting Gospel ministries, and faithfully serving the Lord Jesus Christ.
Dave Crompton’s lifelong desire was for people to experience God’s saving grace and the riches of his Word. Dave’s motto: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
“For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep.” (Acts 13:36)
The family gives thanks to the Lord Jesus for the assurance that Dave is now in His presence where there is joy everlasting. (Psalm 16:11).
What a blessing it has been to know our dear brother in Christ. What a shinning example he has been to all of us as a Godly man. We rejoice that he is at peace in Heaven but we will miss him dearly.
David, the tall gentleman who had a persistent smile with a determined mission. His spiritual concern was for air men at MacDill AFB who both knew & didn’t know the Lord. A steady plodder providing a place where Air Force folk could come and be welcomed both with the teaching from Scripture and food.
Good night kind servant. I and others will see you at HIS glorious appearing.
David, was a Goly man and such a Godly wife. The children were sweet and kind just like their parents, It was always a please to see them, David will be missed on this earth but we will see him again in glory. To God be the Glory and honor. Pat and Don Harshbarger
It is a privilege to recognize Dave Crompton as a good soldier of Jesus Christ and to salute his love of Family, God, and Country, and those with unmet spiritual needs. He and Eunice operated the MacDill Serviceman’s Center at considerable personal sacrifice, as an all purpose ministry and home-away-from-home for hundreds of pilgrims and strangers, such as myself. They surely etched a special place in our hearts with their love and good works. Dave was a faithful friend who fought the good fight, finished his course and kept the faith.
