David P. Helms, 63, of Clearwater, Fl died suddenly October 5, 2021. David was born the youngest of 8 children, in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Central Hower Highschool and worked at the family bakery before relocating to Florida in 1979. He spent the last thirty years working as an independent painting contractor in the Tampa Bay area.
He was a modest and humble man who will be remembered as a fun loving friend and caring confidant to many. He loved eating a good meal, spending time with his dogs, riding his motorcycle too fast, and getting into occasional shenanigans. His quiet time was spent boating, fishing, hunting, tinkering on his motorcycles, fishkeeping and collecting model trains.
He was a hero to his three daughters, and grandchildren; His gentle voice and strong embrace provided strength, comfort, and unconditional love.
He will live on in stories as a fearless, strong willed, badass dude.
Preceded in death by his parents Angela (Fisher) and Gilbert Helms; brothers Stephen, Thomas and William; sister Penelope; several family pets including Buster.
Survived by his partner Teri Gilner; three daughters Nicole Whelan, Kalyn James, and Dakota Helms; Sisters Lillian Briggs and Gloria Massey; Brother Edward; 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held with close family and friends at a later date.
I will miss you, Dave! I still can’t believe you are no longer here. I know you are at peace now though and I’m sure you are getting all the Reeses you can eat in heaven! Rest in peace. Love from, Chelsey ❤️

My heart is broken.. I can’t quite rap my brain around the fact that you’re no longer on this earth.. I have so many memories of us as kids we are only 3 years apart he was my youngest uncle and the youngest of eight kids.. It’s so hard to believe you’re not physically with us anymore, Dave. I will always remember and cherish your advice, guidance, fun times watching football, and eating good food. I hear your voice everyday, so I know your sprit is with us. I love you Dave. May you Rest In Peace.
