Delores M. Planes

Delores M. Planes, 83, of Naples, FL, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the NCH North Naples Hospital.  She was born in York, PA and has lived in various cities in Florida for many years.

Delores was a preacher’s daughter. Her father was a pastor at several small churches in Florida and Pennsylvania.  Perhaps growing up during the Great Depression was what helped to build her strong spirit and can do attitude. Growing up she worked on farms and in orchards and even caddied at a golf club. She married her husband of 67 years at the age of 17.

Delores, also known as Dee, Sister Planes, Sis Planes and many other nicknames, was an industrious woman with a can do attitude.  There was never too large of a challenge that could not be overcome.  She was an accomplished seamstress, upholstered furniture, sold World Book Encyclopedias and was an E-Bay queen who bought and sold various items frequently.

She was a painter, gardener, navigator, cook, Bell telephone operator, artist, a handy man and an amazing business woman, that was independent and courageous women ready to try new things. She was a person that focused on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative and the word can’t was not in her vocabulary.

While she was domestic engineer, she was also the other half of a pastoral partnership. She helped and supported her husband in many ways during their years in the ministry. While he handled church business, she supported his calling and took care of the home.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Winifred Baughman; and sisters, Faith and Dawn. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Pastor Anthony Planes; children Debra, Anthony and Jeff; brothers, Paul, David, Joe and Jim; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Golden Gate Assembly of God Church located at 3899 29th Ave North, Naples, FL, 34117.  A public visitation will commence at 9:30AM and the funeral service will follow at 10:00AM.  She will be interred at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
