Donald Nick

Donald Nick, a truly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend, passed away on December 8, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at the age of 85.  His enthusiasm for life, sense of humor & outgoing personality will be remembered & cherished long after his passing.
Don was born on February 2, 1937 & was raised in Royal Oak, MI.  He graduated from Royal Oak High then enlisted in the Army in 1955.  He returned to Royal Oak where he spent many years in business.  He later moved to Ortonville, then Lapeer, MI.  He proudly worked for the United Auto Workers at Solidarity House in Detroit until he retired in 2016 before moving to Clearwater, Florida.
Don knew how to enjoy life & always saw to it that those around him did too.  He was one of a kind.  He enjoyed traveling with family & friends to sunny destinations, loved to entertain, play golf & was an avid sports fan.  Everyone who knew him has a “Don Nick” story.   He was the eternal optimist who never let things get him down & gave others the inspiration to fight their own battles & overcome obstacles.   He was known to include everyone & help those in need without question.  Don never met a stranger.  He kept his faith & positive outlook to the very end.  One of his favorite quotes was, “This ain’t no dress rehearsal.  The curtain goes up and the curtain comes down.  Enjoy every moment.”  He did.  Don’s influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
Don was blessed with a loving family who adored him.  He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons Ted Nick, Anthony Nick and Kevin Nick; his daughter Cindy Nick; grandchildren Amanda & Amber Drypen; great grandson Ayden; sister Debbie Berk (Chuck);  brothers Bill Nick (Betty), Lou Nick (Linda); brother-in-laws Mike Moran (Lori), John Moran (Jean); father-in-law John Moran, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, JoAnn Nick parents Ted & Sylvia Nick & many great friends.
He was fortunate to have many family & friends from across the country visit in his final months to celebrate his life.  He felt deeply grateful & blessed.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.
