Donald R. Dalessandro Sr.

onald Richard Dalessandro, Sr. was born on August 3, 1920 in Leetonia, Ohio to Dominico and Philamenia (Rance) Dalessandro. He passed away on October 12, 2017 at Manor Care in Dunedin, Florida.

Family

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Beth (Romutis) Dalessandro. Don and Beth were married on June 16, 1984 at Indian Rocks Baptist Church. Additionally they are survived by son Donald Dalessandro, Jr.; daughters Heather (Timothy) North, Kara (Anthony) Johnston, Erin (Jeffrey) Hughes and eight granddaughters Jessica North, Morgan Futrell, Sydney Doudna, Sienna North, Alexandra Johnston, Sophia North, Olivia Hughes and Sahara North.

Military

Don joined the United States Coast Guard on September 10, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. At the time of his honorable discharge he was entitled to wear the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Seaman Dalessandro participated in the allied operation against the Japanese on Iwo Jima.

Services

A memorial service with military honors provided by the United States Coast Guard is scheduled for 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks in Largo, Florida. The Patriot Guard Riders of Florida have been invited by the family as honored guests.

Special Acknowledgements

The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the volleyball program at Indian Rocks Christian School where he loved watching his granddaughters play volleyball. Those who would like to contribute can make checks payable to Indian Rocks Christian School and in the memo line write, “In memory of Don Dalessandro.”
