Doris Haviland Doll


Doris Haviland Doll, age 97, of Largo, FL passed away on May 16th, 2024 at Sabal Palms Health and Rehabilitation, following a short illness. On September 4th, 1926 She was born in Oradell, NJ to her parents, Fred Holland Lee and Josephine Ada Lee (Wingender). On September 18th, 1965 She was married to her husband of 27 years, Harold William Doll at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dumont, NJ. Doris spent most of her career as a registered nurse and began in the cadet nurse corps during World War II. She was a devout member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dumont, NJ since 1952. Doris loved dogs, particularly dachshunds, and she also loved reading and gardening. Her green thumb was amazing; all plants flourished under her care. Her favorite place of all was Long Beach Island, NJ, where she enjoyed many long walks on the beach. Her proudest achievement was becoming a mom at the age of 41 to her only child, Suzanne. Doris was known for her dry, witty sense of humor, she had a colorful storytelling ability, intellect, and had a quirky proficiency to insert archaic words and phrases smoothly into everyday conversations. Doris lived in Hillsdale, NJ from 1926 – 1939, then Westward, NJ from 1939-1941, before moving to Dumont, NJ from 1941-2018, finally she spent her remaining years in Largo, FL from 2018 – present. She is proceeded in death by her parents and her husband. Her survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Lowe, her son-in-law, Timothy Lowe, her grandsons, Christopher and Joshua Lowe, and her cousins, Jane Corcoran and John Wingender. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sabal Palms, Suncoast Hospice, their friend Mary, and her cousins, Jane and John, as well as everyone that helped make her last year’s excellent.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Largo, FL on Friday, June 14th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. and an interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, NJ at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the North shore Animal League.
