A natural caretaker, she was known for her compassion and deep love for those around her, and for her lifelong love of animals—never hesitating to take in a stray. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Foss and Heather Foss (Patrick Bell); her grandson, Jackson; and her siblings, Jay Starr (Jane Montgomery) and Yetta Starr (Robert Kempa). She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Starr (Karen); her first husband, Stuart Foss; and her second husband, Bruce Solomon. In her later years, Doris was cared for by dedicated caregivers who brought comfort and kindness to her days. Her family is deeply grateful for the care they provided. Doris will be laid to rest in Chicago, where she will be reunited with her mother, the late Della Starr.
