Edward J. Mort

Edward J. Mort, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on December 25, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 21, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, Ed lived a life rich in love, humor, and unwavering support for those he cherished.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Calvin and Lucy (Herrel) Mort, as well as his wife and soulmate, Linda, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. Ed and Linda were united in matrimony on May 10, 1975, at her mother’s home, beginning a journey of love that would be a cornerstone of Ed’s life. His proudest achievement was being a good husband, father, and grandparent, and he took great joy in the family they nurtured together.

Edward is survived by his son, Jason Mort, and his wife, Tamara; his daughter, Karen Mort; his sister, Jeanette Holmes; and his brother, John Mort. He leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Isaiah, Mikayla, and Ethan Mort, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Ed also had a special bond with his sister-in-law, Karen Miner, and her husband, Mark Miner, as well as Kim Ferrari, whom he lovingly referred to as the daughter of his heart. He welcomed Kinsie Hill, Ethan Mort’s life partner, into his family, and created a lasting friendship with Max Jackson, Karen Mort’s partner.

A proud veteran, Edward served in the U.S. Air Force, embodying the courage and dedication that would characterize his life. He faced challenges with a remarkable sense of humor and an unwavering ability to put others first. His faith in God was central to his life, providing guidance in his actions and comfort in his final days.

Ed’s life was marked by his generosity and compassion. He was grateful for the remarkable teams from Florida Cancer Specialists and Tidewell Hospice, whose exceptional care and support made his journey more bearable. Their kindness exemplified the love Ed shared with those around him.

As we remember Edward J. Mort, let us celebrate a life well-lived—one filled with laughter, faith, and deep connections. His legacy will continue through his family and the countless lives he touched.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Sarasota National Cemetery.

Rest in peace, dear Ed. Your light will shine on in the love you shared and the lives you touched.
