Elmer Herbert Ruthenberg was born April 14, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Elmer and Pauline Ruthenberg. He died February 24, 2017 in Largo, Florida after a brief illness.
Elmer “Al” Ruthenberg worked at the Broadway Market in downtown Detroit as a sausage maker. It was there he met the love of his life Madeline. He joined the Navy and served with the Occupational Forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1947.
Al tried many professions but was a butcher by trade. He had many other skills he put to use throughout his life: baseball player, coach, umpire and musician.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Madeline; daughters Diane (Richard) Sargent, Suzanne (James) Nawrot, sons David, William (Kara) and Joel; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many more family and friends.
My sincere sympathy to this entire family.
To one of the most influential persons in my young life. A man I loved dearly, trusted and asked for guidance more times then I care to remember, Rest in Peace and continue your journey together with your beautiful and loving bride.
