MOULTON, Epworth (“Ep”) Stanton, 96, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away April 6, 2017.
Ep was born in Manchester, NH on June 8, 1920. He was proceeded in death by his second loving wife, Barbara Ann, and their son, Jayson. He is survived by four sons, Frank, Peter, Raymond, and Dana; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and, his step-daughter, Carlene Merrill, with whom he was very close.
Ep graduated from Manchester West High School and Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. He served in the Army during World War II. His working life was spent in the wholesale and retail food business. He owned and ran Moulton’s Market in Amherst, NH. EP ended his career as president of the grocery wholesaler Miliken, Tomlinson Company of Portland, ME, a subsidiary of Wetterau Inc.
Ep loved everything about horses. From his first pony at age eight to his last at age 86, he spent his spare time raising, riding, and showing horses. He was a judge, ringmaster and steward at horse shows for decades in New Hampshire. He traveled many miles to see them on farms, or go to national horse shows in New York and Kentucky. In evenings, Ep would read his horse magazines, following the great trainers and farms in the US.
In 2007, Ep moved from his home in Windham, ME to Americana Cove in St. Petersburg, FL, where he enjoyed his neighbors, weather, community activities, and most of all his pool aerobic workouts. Here he enjoyed horse events in Tampa, Florida State Fair, and the rodeo in Arcadia. He loved the circus with the elephants, lions, and horses.
The family will be remembering their father at a memorial service in the Americana Cove club house atrium, 7201 1st St NE, St. Petersburg on May 7th at 2 PM.
Friends and family are invited to share a memory and sign his guestbook below.
EB and I shared stories since we both are New Englanders. During the summer when Nancy Olson is away,I am one of the substitutes for the water aerobics class. I loved how EB come to the pool @ 9:15 and I had to get the right lounge chair for him to sit in before class so he could talk with John (who also had to have a special lounge chair). At 9:25 I would tap his foot and he would ask “time to go in the pool?” He then went into the pool and dipped quickly and gave out an “ahhh” loudly. I miss his smile and my life has been blessed having known him. Godspeed Mr. EB!!!
