Frank Colbert, 92, of St. Petersburg FL, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022.
Frank was born on May 29, 1930 to Mary Louise and Ray Frank Colbert, in
Chicago, Illinois. Although he only had an 8 th grade education, he managed to
join the United States Coast Guard, where he proudly served our Country for 3
years, during the Korean war, 1950-1953; he ended his time with an honorable
discharge. He went on to become a Plumber, and eventually started his own
business. Upon ending his time as a plumber, he went on to work for the rail
road, as a steam pipe fitter, where he eventually retired.
Frank and Ruth had two children, Judy and Terry. Frank and his 2 nd wife Bettie
would go on to have five children, Debbie, Becky, Diane, Mary, and Teresa. His 3 rd
wife, Jean gave him many step children that call him dad.
Frank was a wonderful and devoted father, husband and teacher. He always
taught us to love God, country, family, enjoy life, be responsible, and to have a
sense of humor. He supported us all throughout the many accomplishments and
difficulties of our lives. He was a man that could keep you laughing with his wild
and crazy sense of humor; he always had a quick wit, and he had both to the end.
He designed and built three homes, for his families, doing most of the work
himself. These beautiful homes were a source of pride to him and his family.
Frank enjoyed spending time in the Smokey Mountains and had a passion for Harley
Davidson Motorcycles; He had a special puppy, named Buddy who was his
companion, and best friend, during his final years.
Frank was predeceased by his 2 nd wife Bettie and his 3 rd wife of over 30 years,
Jean Colbert, and several grandchildren. He is survived by His daughter Judy her
husband Bill Myers of Ponte Vedra Beach FL, son Terry his wife Sherry Colbert of
St. Augustine FL, daughter Debbie Parker of Mansfield Ohio, daughter Becky her
husband Scott Irvin of Winter Haven FL, daughter Marilyn (Diane) her husband
Rick Hillengas of Seminole FL, Daughter Mary her husband Jack Tyler of
Seminole FL, Teresa her husband Bob Diem. His step children include, Kathy and
husband Vince, Colleen and husband Dave, Charlie, Chuck, Garry, Susan and
Ron, 23 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren
The family requests that donations be made to Am Vets, of which Frank was a long-time
member. There will be a funeral service on August 4 th , 2022, 9:30 am at Bay Pines
Cemetery, please be prompt. The family would like to invite everyone for a celebration of
his life and a light meal, after the ceremony, at Grace Bible Church 555 61 st Street South,
Petersburg FL 33707.
