Frank (Francis) Thoubboron


Frank (Francis) Thoubboron of Clearwater passed away on February 24, 2021 at the age of 91.  He was born on June 30, 1929 in Brooklyn NY.  He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Virginia (May) Thoubboron and his sister Rita T. Ryan.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Thoubboron; his son Frank  C. Thoubboron,of Raleigh, NC; his daughter Patricia Ward also of Raleigh, grandchildren Paul F. Ward and Rebecca J. Ward.  He will be remembered as a great dad, a wonderful grandfather, a brave soldier and a born salesman.   Frank married Evelyn Harper of Roanoke, Alabama on September 8, 1956. His daughter, Patricia was born in 1958 and his son Frank was born in 1959.

Frank served with distinction in the US Army from 1948 to 1954.   He completed Officers Candidates School in 1951; he then completed Paratrooper training at Fort Benning, Georgia and earned his Paratrooper Jump Wings from the 11th Airborne Division.  He served in Korea as a first lieutenant from 1952 to 1953.  He received numerous commendations from the Army including: the Bronze Star Award for meritorious service and the Combat Infantry Badge for service in Korea.  At the conclusion of Korean War, Frank left the military and attended the University of Alabama on the GI Bill from 1954 to 1957 earning his bachelor’s degree in Marketing.   Upon graduation, he joined IBM and was employed there for 30 years as a Marketing Representative in the IBM Office Products and Data Processing Divisions.   Frank spent the last years of his IBM career in Tampa and London, England.  .

He was a friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob with 47 years of sobriety beginning in 1974.  He worked tirelessly to help others to achieve and maintain sobriety.  Ever the gregarious story teller, Frank never met a stranger.  He loved to entertain with tales and jokes especially from his childhood in Brooklyn.

After retirement in 1987, Frank and his wife Evelyn spent summers in the North Carolina mountains where he volunteered as a mentor in the NC Prison system and was a member of the local “ROMEO’s”  (Retired Old Men Eating Out).

A military memorial service for Frank will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Monday, March 15 at 2:00 PM.  Memorial donations may be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation at 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.
