Frederick John Phelps, 84, of Bradenton, FL, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System in St. Petersburg, FL. He was born in Toledo, OH and moved to Florida in 1995 from Bay Village, OH.
He served his country in the US Army as an Army Tank Squad Sergeant during the Korean War Era. He was an Eagle Scout and made a career as an accountant in the building materials industry. He enjoyed golfing, camping, boating and fishing. He was a sweets lover and liked music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen Phelps; and his brother, David Phelps. He is survived by his sons, Frederick John Phelps, Jr., Erick Phelps and Kevin Phelps; daughters, Nancy Grismore and Rebecca Phelps; siblings, Pat Carter and Donald Phelps; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Bayside Community Church, East Sarasota Campus. The Church is located at 8200 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34241. Following the Memorial Service there will be a time of fellowship. At 1:00PM, a Military Honors Service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System Hospice Unit, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, St. Petersburg, FL 33744.
