Gary Allyn Moreau, 74, of Largo, FL, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 26, 2017. He was born in Ilion, NY on March 10, 1942, the son of Joseph and Marietta Moreau.
After graduating from Bridgewater Central School, Mr. Moreau enlisted in the US Navy. While he was severely injured in his first year of service, he wanted to continue to serve his country. He served on the blockade of Cuba in 1962 and volunteered for service in Vietnam. In March 1968 He found he could not continue his service and was retired by the US Navy.
He worked at LB Senif & Sons of West Winfield , was self employed at Gary’s Texaco, then as a truck driver for Enjem’s Carpet of Herkimer. He was a member of the West Winfield Fire Dept and retired as chief. He was a member of the West Winfield Village Board and President of The West Winfield Medical Center. He also taught advanced first aid for the American Red Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marietta Moreau; brother, Michael and sisters, Valerie and Joanne. He is survived by his sons, William (Mick) of Lewisville, TX, Gary II (George) of West Winfield, NY, Joseph of Utica, NY and Mark of Mohawk, NY; daughter, Brenda Zastrow of Lake Placid, FL; sister, Dawn of Ilion, NY; and several grand children and four great grand children.
He will be buried at Florida National Cemetery, located in Bushnell, FL) with full military honors at 11:00AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Moreau asked that donations be made to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation (www.dvn.org) of which he was a lifetime member or the West Winfield Ambulance Fund (www.westwinfield.com).
Rest easy, sir. You’ve answered your last call. Thank for your service to your country and community.
