It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary James Boyd, who left this world on May 25, 2025, at the Accentcare Hospice Center in Dunedin, Florida, after bravely battling cancer for a year and a half. Gary was born on January 27, 1951, in Plattsburgh, New York, a place that held his early memories and shaped the man he would become.
Gary was the beloved son of Melvin and Emma (Jarvis) Boyd. He grew up in a loving household that instilled in him strong values and a sense of humor that would last a lifetime. He was known for being a comedian at heart, always able to lighten the mood with a joke or a funny story, bringing smiles and laughter to all who knew him.
In 2015, Gary married the love of his life, Janice Randlett, in a joyful ceremony in Las Vegas. Together, they spent a wonderful ten years filled with laughter, love, and companionship. His devotion to Janice was unwavering, and their bond was a testament to the power of love in its purest form.
Gary was a proud father and a cherished grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice and her daughter, Britney, husband Juan and daughter Lexie Alcantara, children Gary Boyd, Jr., James Boyd, Scott (Jenelle) Boyd, Billy Boyd, Brenda Boyd; and his brother, Bruce Boyd, who shared a special companionship with Laura Garrow. Gary’s legacy is carried on by his 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored and cherished, often sharing stories of his adventures in fishing, hunting, boxing, and canoe racing.
Gary’s professional journey saw him wear many hats, serving in various roles as a security personnel, mechanic, and working in schools and transportation at nursing facilities. His commitment to serving others extended well beyond his career as he was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Holiday, Florida. His faith and dedication to his community were evident in everything he did.
An alumnus of Clinton Community College and Plattsburgh State University, Gary pursued studies in Criminal Justice, which reflected his desire to make a positive impact in the world. He approached life with a sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to those around him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gary’s remarkable life at his funeral service, which will take place on June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1935 Anclote Blvd., Holiday, Florida 34691. This gathering will be an opportunity to share stories, reflect on cherished memories, and honor a man whose spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
