George Thomas Williams was born July 28,1935 in Lexington, KY. He went to be with the Lord on March 20,2022 at 86 years of age. He leaves behind the love of his life Jean Williams, daughter Valerie Sewell (Billy), daughter Vera Gilmer (Patrick), and granddaughter Anna Sewell. George graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. He joined the Navy after high school, serving as an engineer on the transport carrier Thuban at the end of the Korean War. Following his service in the Navy, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Kentucky, earning both a BS and MS. It was during his time at UK that he met and married Jean, his wife of 63 years. He worked for IBM in Lexington, KY and Boulder, CO during a career spanning more than 30 years. He was a key technical contributor to many projects, including development of copier II, the correcting Selectric typewriter and toner for printers. He received several inventions awards during his career. George was an active member of many organizations over the years. He served as President of the Central Kentucky Knife Club for many years and his Kentucky themed knife collection won best in show numerous times. He was an active member of the American Legion and served as an honor guard member. George and Jean are active members of Starkey Road Baptist Church, Silver Saints Senior Program and Golden Heirs. Services are to be held at Veterans Funeral Care in Clearwater FL, Friday, March 25th. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00AM, with the service taking place from 11:00AM-12:00PM. Graveside services will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater FL, at 1:00PM with military honors.
