Obituary for George William Plomatos
George William Plomatos, age 74, of Pinellas Park, Florida, passed away on August 4, 2025, in Seminole, Florida. He was born on February 14, 1951, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Peter Plomatos and Nell Fern Cole.
George proudly served his country for 22 years as a radar technician in the United States Navy, a career that took him around the world and left him with deep pride in his service. One of his proudest achievements was earning the rank of Eagle Scout and serving aboard the ship that recovered the Soyuz 34 spacecraft — a moment he often spoke of with honor and excitement.
After his military career, George continued to work hard, including time spent as a bar doorman — a job that allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life. Throughout his life, he lived in San Diego, California, as well as his home states of New Jersey and Florida.
George is survived by his family: Peter Plomatos, Billy Plomatos, and Barbara Plomatos.
A memorial service to honor George’s life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Veterans Funeral Care, located at 830 N. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, FL 33765.
He will be remembered for his dedication to service, his adventurous spirit, and the stories he shared with those lucky enough to know him.
