Tampa Florida – Gerhilde S. Nearey passed away Sunday May 16, 2021 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She succumbed following a brief illness.
She was born in Germany, on May 13, 1954 to the late Lothar and Sylvia Prehna. Gerhilde was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Nearey, who was the love of her life.
Gerhilde graduated from Stamford Central High School in 1973. Those that were acquainted with her knew her as a kind, generous and fun loving person.
She is survived by her brothers Horst (Irene) Prehna, of Howe Caves, New York; Gerd (Donna) Prehna of Stamford, New York; William (Brenda) Prehna of Nichols, South Carolina; and sisters
Monika Morrell of Nichols, South Carolina; and Angelika Prehna of Chickamunga, Georgia; many nieces, nephews and thousands of friends!
The cremains of Ray and Gert Nearey will be escorted to Florida National Cemetery on June 25th at 11:30am from American Legion Post 152 by American Legion Riders, Family and Friends.
There will be a Military Ceremony for Raymond and a short Service for Gerhilde at 1:00pm.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 pm back at American Legion Post 152 (11211 Sheldon Rd Tampa, Florida)

Gertie and I shared 57 years of friendship and I was so happy when she met and married Ray. They were the love of each other’s lives. Rest In Peace Gertie and Ray. I love you both and I will hold our memories in my heart forever.
I have known Gertie 55 years of my life and I never met anyone like her..she was caring and always there to help. She was the life of any party. Whenever I needed a shoulder I could count on her. Gertie you will forever be in my heart. Fly free my friend. Until we meet again. Much love❤️
