Gloria Virginia Lockwood 1935 – 2025

Gloria Virginia Lockwood, 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family in St. Petersburg, FL on April 12, 2025.   She loved her family dearly, and treasured Rileigh (the family dog), as well as gardening, cooking and watching sports (the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Tampa Bay Rays).

She is survived by her six children, Cheryl Lockwood (Michael Gusler, deceased), Donna Costello (Randy), Pamela Reith (David), Kevin Lockwood (Becky), Stacie Davis (Kent Jr.) and Shaylyn Marie Lockwood, sixteen grandchildren, Christina (Kyle), Ryan (Kristina), Eric (Jessica), Brian, Marc, Ashley, Evan, Courtney, Delaney, Kent, Seamus, Aidan, Kaitlin, Kellsie, Kendall and Alyssa, and four great grandchildren, Madison, Reese, Ethan, and Camila.

Gloria was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1935 to Henrietta (Parncutt) and Raymond James Hughes.  She married her teenage sweet heart, Walter (deceased) on March 13, 1957.  She traveled with Walt to Biloxi, Mississippi, San Angelo, Texas, the Mediterranean Island of Crete, and Pensacola, Florida, each where Walt was stationed with the Air Force.  She started and raised her family while traveling across the world and devoted her life to taking care of her husband and children.

Gloria loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She attended countless games, school performances, graduations, and many impromptu events.  There was nothing more important to her than being surrounded by her family.

As a mother, she was a model for her children of what complete devotion looked like.  Her life was filled with making sure her large family had hot meals, clean clothes, and arrived at all their many activities on time and prepared.

She met Walt when she was 17 years old.  They married four years later and traveled across the world together raising their family and finally settling in St. Petersburg, FL, surrounded by all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Together with Walt, they shared a love for sports, demonstrated by sponsoring numerous youth football, baseball, soccer, and hockey teams.  They created memories from shared excursions to Italy, Alaska and across this wonderful country they both loved dearly. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her, especially her lifelong friend since childhood, Marti (Mar) Swafford.

Please join us for a graveside ceremony at Bay Pines National Cemetery, St. Petersburg, Florida to celebrate Gloria’s life with her family on May 27, at 11:00. Please arrive at the cemetery no later than 10:45am.
